Brandenburg Gate

Where better to start a sightseeing tour in Berlin than at the Brandenburg Gate?

But that's exactly where the problem starts.

As beautiful as it is, it's impossible for this landmark to find a new angle or a new view that you haven't seen before.

So at least I tried to find one that I haven't seen yet.

But as soon as I had taken this photo, I discovered exactly this angle on a postcard not far from the gate itself.

This is the curse and blessing of a real celebrity.
All the world is dealing with it.

Gendarmenmarkt

For me, the Gendarmenmarkt is one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful place in Berlin.

This is largely due to the beautiful buildings that define the character of the square, the concert hall and, of course, the almost identical domes of the German and French cathedrals. But it is also due to the fact that this large open space with all its view axes is a good haven of peace and invites you to rest in front of the hectic pace of the city.

There are all kinds of cafés and restaurants around the square. However, some of them, at least for my personal opinion, are too exclusively aimed at tourists.

But where, if not here, can you forgive and understand something like that?

In summer, the Gendarmenmarkt offers the great classical open-air concert and in winter one of the main Christmas markets.

I can only recommend everyone to put this place on your Berlin trip on the list.

The Victory Column

This Berlin landmark has already experienced a lot.

The Victory Column was built between 1864 and 1873 to commemorate Prussia's victory in the German-Danish war.

It was unveiled by Otto von Bismarck, but at that time it stood on Königsplatz, now Platz der Republik, in front of the Reichstag building.

Under the National Socialists, it was moved 1.6 kilometres to the west to the Great Star in 1838/39 and extended by a fourth tower element in the course of the transformation to the imperial capital Germania. Its height thus increased to a total height of 67 metres.

At a height of 51 metres there is a 360-degree panoramic view over the whole city of Berlin.

There is no elevator and so you have to earn this all-round view by climbing the 285 stone steps.

The TV Tower

Undoubtedly the iconic building in Berlin.

With its height of 368 metres, it is the tallest building in Germany and has shaped Berlin's skyline since its completion in 1969.

It can be found in the opening scenes of numerous feature films and attracts more than a million visitors a year to its observation platform and the rotating restaurant.

Originally, however, it was planned quite differently.

Actually, in the year 1952, it was thought of a location in the Müggelberge's mountains. This is where the highest elevation of Berlin is located and therefore it was not necessary to build so high, in addition, it was intended to spare the centre of Berlin a pure 'functional building' that would influence the cityscape architecturally.

Construction began in 1954, but was stopped at the end of 1955. It had been considered that the television tower would be too close to Schoenefeld airport and that its height could disrupt air traffic.

Molecule Men

Molecule Men - this impressive 30 meter tall and 45 ton monument was created by Jonathan Borodsky.

He wanted to remind us that we all consist of a molecular structure, "and the goal of all creative and spiritual traditions is to find wholeness and unity within the world.

The three men meet near the place where the districts Alt-Treptow, Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg are connected and where the eastern and western world used to be separated by the Berlin Wall.
